The Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is called a self-organization distributed network that emerges datacollection with data operation, and data communications. The principal and the most significant challengein WSN is the efficient use of energy resources. Clustering schemes allocate fewer communicationoverheads and reduce the allocation of efficient resources, thus reducing overall energy consumption. Inthis paper, we describe improved rotating energy-efficient clustering to be used in heterogeneous devices(IREECHD). IREECHD introduces a new protocol of cluster head selection using node residual energyand the work done by the node. The work done by the node was estimated by the node transfer rate.IREECHD also uses the notion of intra-traffic rate limit (ITRL). It defines a constraint on in-trafficcommunications that all WSN clusters must follow. ITRL can be implemented to enhance energyconsumption. We use Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to find the best ITRL in differentWSN settings. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm using clustering based on the bestITRL improves the energy consumption in the sensor network. According to the results, the proposedalgorithm improves the values of the first dead nodes (FND), half of the dead nodes (HND), and the lastdead nodes (LND), network life, number of dead nodes, energy consumption, and average energyremaining and the efficiency of the proposed method is better than the existing method. This method canbe used in intelligent transportation.
