Synthesis of new imidazol-۵-one azo compounds ۵-((E)-benzylidene)-۳-(۴'-((Z)-phenyldiazenyl)-[۱, ۱'-biphenyl]-۴-yl)-۲-vinyl-۳, ۵-dihydro-۴H-imidazol-۴-one and its derivatives has been studied in this work. The reaction of an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid with thionyl chloride as starting materials led to (E)-۴-benzylidene-۲-vinyloxazol-۵(۴H)-one (compound A۳) after two steps which was treated with benzidine, and then aromatic compounds in the presence of sodium nitrite and hydrogen chloride at low temperature due to compounds A۵-A۷ via a coupling reaction. The synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, ۱H-NMR, and ۱۳C-NMR spectroscopy. The studies of antibacterial and antioxidant activities indicate that some of these molecules to be developed as a potential antibacterial and antioxidant agents.
