Building public trust is fundamental to effective public relations, and transparent communication has emerged as a critical strategy for fostering this trust. In today’s digital age, where information is easily accessible and scrutinized, organizations face increasing pressure to engage in transparent communication to maintain credibility and trust with stakeholders. Transparency, defined as the open sharing of accurate and timely information, allows organizations to demonstrate accountability, reduce ambiguity, and build stronger relationships with the public. This review explores the relationship between transparent communication and public trust in the context of public relations. Drawing on key theoretical frameworks, such as Relationship Management Theory, Dialogic Communication Theory, and Situational Crisis Communication Theory, the article highlights how transparency contributes to trust-building by promoting open dialogue, ethical behavior, and mutual understanding. Empirical research and case studies are examined to illustrate how transparent communication has helped organizations maintain trust during crises and avoid reputational damage. Additionally, the article addresses challenges that organizations face in balancing transparency with confidentiality, especially in the context of crisis communication and social media. The review concludes with best practices for organizations looking to enhance transparency in their communication strategies. By adopting a transparent approach, organizations can foster long-term trust and maintain positive relationships with their stakeholders in an increasingly information-driven world.
