Investigating the frequency of blaOXA-۴۸ gene in carbapenem-resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli in Yasuj

Aims: Escherichia coli is a gram-negative bacterium that is the most important cause of pathogenicity in the urinary tract. It accounts for about ۹۰% of urinary infections in young women. The current study investigates the aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of bla oxa-۴۸ gene in carbapenem- resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli in Yasuj city. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, ۱۵۰ samples of positive cultures with urinary infection referred to hospitals and laboratories in Yasouj city were collected and the samples were confirmed in the microbiology laboratory by conventional biochemical and microbiological methods. The antibiotic resistance of the isolates was investigated using the disk diffusion method. The presence of bla oxa-۴۸ gene was also investigated by molecular method (polymerase chain reaction) with specific primers. Finding: The results showed that Escherichia coli bacteria are the most resistant to doripenem, imipenem, meropenem, ciprofloxacin, cefixime, cotrimoxazole, ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, norfloxacin with the frequency percentage of ۹۶.۶, ۹۴.۷, ۸۹.۹, ۸۱.۲, ۵/۸۴, ۹/۸۹, ۱/۸۵, ۴/۹۰ respectively And It had the lowest resistance to cholestin, amikacin, gentamicin, tetracycline and doxycycline with frequency percentages of ۲۷.۱, ۲۳.۸, ۲۹.۸, ۲۲.۵ and ۳۴.۶ respectively. Molecular investigation showed that OXA-۴۸ gene is present in ۳۶.۶۷% of the isolates. Conclusion: Agar disk diffusion method can be used as a primary screening method to determine antibiotic sensitivity for Escherichia coli isolates isolated from urinary tract infections. Due to the presence of the bla oxa-۴۸ gene in this bacterium and also due to the importance of this strain in hospitals, quick identification of this gene can play an important role in the control and treatment of urinary infections.
