چکیده مقاله:
Vitamin D is a crucial nutrient that is involved in a variety ofphysiological functions, such as maintaining bone health, supporting the immune system, and promoting fetaldevelopment. Ensuring sufficient levels of vitamin D duringpregnancy is vital for the overall health and wellness of boththe mother and the fetus.Search Strategy:To conduct a comprehensive search for relevant literature, articles in both Persian and English published between ۲۰۱۰-۲۰۲۴ were identified using keywords such as vitamin D, fetalcomplications, and fetal health. The search was carried out onreputable platforms including Web of Science, PubMed, andGoogle Scholar to select articles that were pertinent to thetopic of interest. Results:Maternal vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy is linked toan increased risk of complications such as preterm labor, lowbirth weight, and gestational diabetes. Higher levels ofmaternal vitamin D are associated with better fetal growthand development, reduced risk of preeclampsia, and enhancedimmune function in infants. Vitamin D deficiency can causeintrauterine growth disorders, leading to low birth weightfetus. It also plays a crucial role in fetal skeletal developmentand bone mineralization, with its deficiency potentiallyresulting in skeletal abnormalities and delayed growth.Additionally, vitamin D deficiency increases the risk ofkidney failure and can impact the nervous system and braindevelopment of the fetus. Emerging research suggests apotential connection between maternal vitamin D status andlong-term health outcomes in offspring, including the risk ofchronic diseases later in life. Conclusion and Discussion:Maintaining optimal levels of vitamin D during pregnancy iscrucial for preventing complications and promoting fetalhealth. Further research is necessary to better understand howvitamin D influences fetal development and to establish theideal levels of vitamin D supplementation for pregnantwomen. Educating and raising awareness about theimportance of vitamin D supplementation during pregnancycan help enhance maternal and fetal health outcomes
