چکیده مقاله:

The utilization of thermal imaging cameras (TICs) has become an integral component in modern firefighting, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and safety. This article outlines the Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) for the deployment of TICs by firefighters. The SOG aims to establish a uniform procedure that ensures optimal use of TIC technology during fireground operations and other emergency scenarios. Thermal imaging cameras offer firefighters the ability to see through smoke, identify hotspots, and locate victims in low-visibility conditions, thereby facilitating quicker and more effective responses. The guidelines detailed in this article cover various aspects, including the preparation, usage, and maintenance of TICs. Emphasis is placed on pre-incident training, ensuring that all personnel are proficient in operating the devices and interpreting the thermal images accurately. During incidents, the SOG provides a structured approach to deploying TICs, highlighting their use in size-up, search and rescue, fire attack, and overhaul operations. Post-incident procedures are also addressed, focusing on the care and upkeep of the equipment to maintain its functionality and extend its service life.Furthermore, this article discusses the strategic advantages of integrating TICs into firefighting operations, supported by case studies and real-world examples that demonstrate the effectiveness of this technology in enhancing situational awareness and decision-making. By adhering to the outlined SOG, fire departments can maximize the benefits of thermal imaging technology, ultimately improving firefighter safety and operational outcomes. This comprehensive approach ensures that TICs are employed consistently and effectively across various incident types, aligning with best practices and evolving technological advancements.
