A Survey of c ombining data lake and a local data warehouse

Nowadays data is produced rapidly and changing constantly from one format to another. Thismassive data needs to be managed otherwise it will be misleading and useless. There are manyways to store and govern data, such as data warehouses or silos. The process of data storage hasgrown over time and has reached from physical to virtual storage. In this paper, data warehouseand data lake are introduced and then their benefits & disadvantages are mentioned. Different typesof architecture, metadata management and tools are discussed. It is a survey of drawbacks andbenefits of using data lake. Finally, the paper tends to show whether the use of data lake alongwith a local data warehouse is justified or not. The result of the paper is that the data lake canbecome a useful tool only in the long run and with the help of the data warehouse. This was cariedout by a cross-sectional survey method.
