Investigating the effectiveness and optimal implementation of virtual reality in the treatment of autism

Virtual reality has emerged as a promising tool in the field of autism treatment and offers unique benefits for individuals on the autism spectrum. This abstract highlights the potential of virtual reality interventions in addressing various challenges of individuals with autism, including social skills training, sensory integration, emotion regulation, and cognitive interventions. As knowledge advances, sufficient evidence-based research to support the efficacy and long-term outcomes of virtual reality interventions in the treatment of autism appears essential. This study further emphasizes the importance of customizing and personalizing virtual reality therapy sessions to meet the individual needs of each person on the autism spectrum. In addition, we discuss issues of accessibility and affordability and explore strategies to increase the accessibility of virtual reality technology to a wider population. Finally, we emphasize the importance of providing full training and support to therapists to effectively integrate VR interventions into their practice. By addressing these challenges, virtual reality has the potential to improve the lives of people with autism and improve the overall effectiveness of existing treatment approaches.
