Investigating the features of the green wall

With increasing density in urban settlements, environmental issues are a challenge in the sustainable development of all cities worldwide. Green walls are vertical green structures where different plant species grow. which are considered as a form of urban landscape and have many environmental, social and economic benefits. In fact, these structures have positive effects on air quality, thermal and sound insulation, microclimate, psychological feeling and urban design. Therefore, the purpose of the current research was to analyze and evaluate the opportunities and challenges of using the green wall in the development of urban sustainability. Current systems for greening building envelopes are not just surfaces covered with vegetation. Green systems, such as green roofs and green walls, are often used as an aesthetic feature in buildings. However, the current technology involved in these systems can maximize the functional benefits of plants for building performance and be part of a sustainable strategy of urban regeneration and building retrofitting.
