چکیده مقاله:
Salmonellosis presents a significant public health challenge in both developed and developing nations, stemming from infection with Salmonella bacteria. While many cases of this illness are mild, there are instances where it can pose a serious threat to life. The severity of salmonellosis is influenced by various host-related factors as well as the specific serotype of Salmonella involved. Salmonella serotypes, which have animal reservoirs, utilize various modes of transmission that can result in human infection. This underscores the importance of understanding the diverse sources and routes of transmission for Salmonella bacteria in order to effectively prevent and manage cases of salmonellosis in both developed and developing countries. Symptoms of salmonellosis typically include the sudden onset of fever, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and occasionally vomiting. Although these symptoms are generally mild, most patients recover without the need for specialized medical intervention. However, in vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly, severe dehydration can occur, leading to potentially life-threatening complications. In developed countries, the majority of infections are believed to stem from exposure to contaminated food. The task of reducing cases of foodborne salmonellosis is complex and requires identifying the key food sources responsible for the disease.Various methodologies have been devised to assess the relative impact of different food sources on foodborne illnesses in humans, such as the microbial subgroup approach, comparative exposure assessment, epidemiological scrutiny of sporadic cases, and analysis of outbreak data. This article provides an overview of the causes of the disease, methods of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
