چکیده مقاله:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential of hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of Wastewater Treatment Plant sludge (WWTPS) to be used in hydrocarbon production as solid biofuel and/or soil amendment. In this study, sewage sludge with a total solid content of ۲۰% by weight obtained from a sewage treatment plant in Bursa, Turkey, was used. The sludge was subjected to hydrothermal carbonization at temperatures of ۲۲۰ degrees Celsius with a residence time of ۴ hours. A low percentage of the solid product hydro char can be converted to fuel or fertilizer, while the gaseous products that make up less than ۲۰% are mainly composed of CO۲ and nitrogen. The waste-to-energy approach, with the aim of creating an efficient economy, has attracted considerable attention and highlights the importance of valorizing sewage sludge due to its large-scale production, disposal challenges, and environmental impacts. Hydrothermal carbonization of sewage sludge in the production of microorganism-free products has also been one of the effective factors for soil improvement. As a relatively new and highly regarded method for managing and evaluating sewage sludge, HTC provides a suitable approach to address the unique characteristics of sludge.
