Simple synthesis of novel CrFe۲O۴@SiO۲-SO۳H: a green, reusable, and versatile catalyst forthe production of biodiesel fuel from oleic acid

In this work, we report the synthesis and identification of CrFe۲O۴@SiO۲-SO۳H as a novel and greennanomagnetic solid acid catalyst, which is containing the sulfuric acid catalytic sites on the surface of CrFe۲O۴magnetic nanoparticles as the catalytic support. The as-synthesized CrFe۲O۴@SiO۲-SO۳H MNPs werecharacterized with accuracy by different physicochemical methods; including, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD),energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR),X-ray elemental mapping, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM)analyses. The prepared CrFe۲O۴@SiO۲-SO۳H exhibits efficient and potential performance for the esterificationof oleic acid under gentle reaction conditions. The heterogeneous nature of the catalyst was confirmed via thehot filtration experiment. Furthermore, the activity of the recycled nanocatalyst was examined for at least fivecycles with a negligible loss of its activity (۹۷-۹۲%). Also, the amount of sulfamic acid function in theCrFe۲O۴@SiO۲-SO۳H was calculated from back titration
