Onion Extract: A Green and Eco-friendly Catalyst for MW-Assisted Solvent-less Synthesisof Pyrroles via Paal–Knorr Reaction

In this study, we have developed an environmental friendly and highly efficient method for onion extractcatalyzed microwave- induced solvent- free synthesis of pyrroles via Paal–Knorr reaction. This method is applicable toa wide range of aromatic/aliphatic/heterocyclic primary amines with ۲,۵- hexanedione, and affords the variouspyrrole derivatives in good to excellent yields (up to ۹۸%) in an eco-friendly solvent-less procedure under microwaveirradiation at reaction temperature ۸۰° C. The use of onion extract makes the process environmentally benign.
