Investigation of electric field considering cable ovality in a sample high voltage cable

High voltage cable are widely used in power systems to transmit energy particularly in dense area. One of the key issues about cable quality is the roundness of the cable layer which is measured by cable ovality factor. The ovality of cable insulation depends on the quality of cable production and must be examined before cable installation. The ovality of cable affects the electrical parameters of cable such as voltage distribution and electric field. Therefore in this paper the simulation of cable considering ovality factor is carried out using COMSOL software. The electric field and other important parameters are calculated and the influence of cable ovality factor over those parameters are investigated. Finally the conclusion are presented.
