Enhanced Restoration Mortars for Dry Climates Applications: Introducing Hydrophobic LimePutty Infused with Sesame Oil

The utilization of organic fatty acids as supplements in historical mortars poses a significant technical hurdle,particularly when incorporating oils on location. This research addresses this challenge by developing a solution throughthe creation of hydrophobic lime putty enriched with sesame oil and assessing its performance in air lime mortars. Thefindings indicate that mortars containing the new lime putty demonstrate substantial hydrophobic propertiescomparable to those of traditional lime putty mixes with added oil. The durability of the treated lime putty was verifiedtwelve months after its production, showcasing its long-term effectiveness. This approach presents a practical methodfor on-site applications and contributes to the conservation of historical masonry structures.
