This study focuses on presenting a novel cylindrical metamaterial structure with considerable negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) by effectively modifying the configuration of its unit cell. The main aim of this work is to investigate Poisson's ratio of cylindrical Diamond-Shaped Hole Metamaterial (DSHM) and Star-Shaped Hole Metamaterial (SSHM) structures. To achieve this purpose, the mechanical performance of three distinct metamaterial structures, containing cylindrical Straight Diamond-Shaped Hole Metamaterial (SDSHM), Diagonal Diamond-Shaped Hole Metamaterial (DDSHM), and SSHM under uniaxial compressive test was meticulously evaluated. In order to assess the potential for enhancing the NPR property in the DSHM structure, adjustments were implemented on the physical parameters, including dimensions and locations of the holes. The models were initially generated using CATIA software, and their mechanical behavior was simulated using ABAQUS software. The current study has introduced cylindrical structures of SDSHM, DDSHM, and SSHM for the first time. The remarkable accomplishments provide a novel insight into the possibility of achieving a negative Poisson's ratio in the SDSHM structure. Furthermore, the achievements indicate simultaneously increasing the size of the holes and decreasing the number of the holes in the two-dimensional SDSHM unit cell increases the negative Poisson ratio of the structure by about-۰.۱۹۸.
