چکیده مقاله:
This study focused on phrasal verbs, which are widely recognized as one of the most challenging and contentious subjects in the English language. The quality of idiom translation is determined by the application of suitable procedures, as the meaning of idioms cannot be deduced from the individual words that make them up. This research used a quantitative method. The data were taken from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban published by Bloomsbury (۲۰۱۴) and its Persian translation by Fereydun Qazinezhad (۲۰۰۲) to determine the types of idioms and what strategies were employed. The translation strategies are analyzed based on Baker’s (۲۰۱۸) theoretical framework. Baker (۲۰۱۸) described six strategies for translating idioms in her book 'In Other Word ۲۰۱۸': translating an idiom of similar meaning and form, translating an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, translation by borrowing, translation by paraphrase, translation by omission of play on idiom, and translation by omission of entire idiom. ۱۵۰ phrasal verbs were taken from the novels. The result of the study shows that there are ۵۵ phrasal verbs (۳۶.۷%) translated using idioms of similar meaning and form, ۴۳ phrasal verbs (۲۸.۷%) translated using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, ۴۳ phrasal verbs (۲۸.۷%) translated by paraphrase, ۴ phrasal verbs (۲.۶%) translated by borrowing, ۳ phrasal verbs (۲%) translated by omission of play on idiom, and ۲ phrasal verbs (۱.۳%) are translated by omission of entire idiom; it shows that the most common strategy is using idioms of similar meaning and form And the less common strategy is translated by omission of entire idiom.
