Vibrations are a significant environmental factor that can impact the lifespan of buildings and mechanical structures. The current trend in construction is towards taller, lighter, and more flexible structures, which often have low damping values. This can increase the risk of failure and affect the overall serviceability of the structure. When the frequency of external vibrations matches the natural frequency of a system, it can lead to catastrophic collapse.Fortunately, there are various techniques available to mitigate vibrations in structures. One effective method is the use of tuned mass dampers, which have gained popularity in recent years. A study was conducted to investigate the behavior of tall buildings equipped with tuned mass dampers, and it was found that these structures are more resilient to seismic vibrations compared to those without this technology.
