Automation in the microgrid control process using PLC

By increasing the penetration of renewable resources, power systems in the future will become scattered microgrids connected to the upstream network. Therefore, like dispatching centers in classical power systems, Microgrids also need a control system that can automate their operation and meet the operator's needs at different levels. Automation in the operation of microgrids requires a controller that has a modular structure and follows structured programming. PLC, which is mostly used in industrial processes and its capabilities are proven in the industrial field, can receive a wide range of data. Its processor will be able to control all kinds of loops and automate various control processes including microgrid control. Therefore, in this paper, in response to this need, PLC is recommended for automation in the operation of microgrids, and its hardware and software requirements are investigated for this purpose.
