چکیده مقاله:

Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have emerged as promising contrast agents for computed tomography (CT)imaging due to their superior X-ray attenuation compared to conventional iodinated agents. Their versatilesurface chemistry allows functionalization for applications like tumor targeting and prolonged circulationtime. This literature review summarizes recent advances in the use of GNPs to enhance contrast and expandthe capabilities of CT for improved disease diagnosis and management. The high biocompatibility andcustomizability of GNPs have spurred extensive research into their development as efficient CT contrastagents. However, careful evaluation of possible toxicity at higher doses is necessary before clinicaltranslation. Overall, GNPs hold significant potential for molecular and personalized CT imaging byaccumulating contrast specifically in tissues based on their design. The review covers common GNPformulations, surface modifications for active targeting, and key factors influencing their performance. It alsoexamines progress in green synthesis methods anduse of GNPs with other imaging modalities. Finally, itdiscusses the importance of rigorous in vitro and in vivo testing to ensure clinical safety. In summary, thisreview highlights the possibilities of tailored GNPs for targeted CT imaging and imaging-guided therapy, while considering challenges to clinical translation.
