چکیده مقاله:

Spatial variability is one of the largest sources of uncertainty in geotechnical applications. Influence of spatial variability ofsoil properties has been investigated in slope stability analysis and bearing capacity analysis. However, this concept hasbarely used to model tunnels in a spatially variable soil. In this study, a tunnel is modelled in a spatially variable soil fieldgenerated using Local Average Subdivision (LAS) method. It is shown in this paper that in case of considering soil spatialvariability, ground settlement due to excavating shallow tunnel is much higher than ground settlement in homogenous soil. Also, it is shown that yielded zone may develop to the ground surface and the location of peak ground settlement may notbe exactly above the tunnel
