Effect of temperature on clearance rate, daily ration and digestion time of Mnemiopsis leidyi from the southern Caspian Sea

The effect of temperature on the main feeding parameters of Mnemiopsis leidyi from the southern Caspian Sea was studied in ۲۰۰۲. The clearance rates and daily rations were estimated from laboratory experiments in a wide range of temperatures from ۱۲ to ۲۷ ?C for M. leidyi of ۱۲?۱۷ mm in length. Clearance rate values changed from ۵۲.۵ to ۱۰۷.۳ ml ind-۱ h-۱. The coefficient Q۱۰ in temperature ۱۲ - ۲۰ ?C was higher than that in ۲۰ - ۲۷ ?C (۳.۸۱ and ۱.۹۱, respectively). The specific daily ration changed from ۱.۵۶?۰.۱۹ to ۰.۲۴?۰.۰۵ mg C mg C-۱ day-۱ when temperature decreased from ۲۷ ?C to ۱۲ ?C. The direct relationship occurred between daily ration and temperature (R۲=۰.۹۹). The digestion time decreased with temperature rise and did not display any clear relation to quantity of digested food.
