Moral education based on integrated moral identity: bridging the judgment-action gap

For centuries, bridging the judgment-action gap in moral functioning has received different answers from different thinkers as a solution. These answers can generally be retrieved in the form of three approaches, approaches focused on moral reasoning, moral emotions, and moral identity. This research tries to explain moral education based on integrated moral identity or in other words ideal of authenticity. In this way, in an explanation-analytical way, integrated moral identity is introduced as an efficient solution in the realization of moral education, which includes both dimensions of moral reasoning and moral feelings, giving priority to moral character, and the coherence and integrity of moral goals and personal objectives. In the formation of a "moral self", a person can better provide the possibility of reducing the gap between judgment and action. It seems that while paying attention to the favorable conditions as well as some obstacles to the formation of integrity and originality, "person" can not only with self-knowledge and commitment and acceptance of responsibility towards "self", compared to being committed to a certain "principle", force to have more motivation for moral action, but in this way, with the closeness and compatibility between its existence areas, it provided the ground for reducing the moral gap between judgment and action, and benefiting from more mental health.
