Due to their unique physical and chemical properties, nanoparticles are known as strong additivesthat can significantly improve the mechanical strength, durability and performance of concrete. This reviewarticle examines the multifaceted impact of nanoparticles on the properties and applications of concrete. Itdiscusses and elucidates recent progress, challenges and future directions in the field of nanoparticlereinforcedconcrete. Looking to the future, this paper speculates on innovative applications of nanoparticlereinforcedconcrete, such as smart building materials capable of monitoring structural health and energygeneratingsurfaces. This highlights the critical need for further research in areas such as long-termperformance, environmental impact assessment, and development of new, environmentally friendlynanoparticles suitable for concrete applications. Technological advances in synthesis and compositionmethods are discussed as necessary paths to overcome existing limitations and unlock the full potential ofnanoparticle-injected concrete. Consequently, while nanoparticle-reinforced concrete is a revolutionarystep forward in construction materials technology, realizing its full potential requires concerted efforts inresearch, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Environmental, economic and technicalchallenges must be carefully considered to ensure that the benefits of these advanced materials areaccessible and sustainable for future generations.
