چکیده مقاله:

An important phytohormone, abscisic acid (ABA) regulates primary physiological functions in plants. However, animal tissues including brain especially hypothalamus, hippocampus, cortex, and cerebellum are also known to produce ABA. A three-stage study was conducted to determine the effect of intracerebroventricular (ICV) and peripheral injection of ABA on broiler’s food intake. The first and second stages were included ۵ and ۷-day-old chicks that received ICV injection of ABA at doses of ۱.۲۵ and ۲.۵ µg and ۵ and ۱۰ µg of ABA respectively. Food intake was measured ۱, ۲, ۳, ۶, ۱۲, ۲۱, and ۲۴ hours after injection. During the third stage, chicks were injected daily with ۲۰۰ µg of ABA subcutaneously (SC) for six days. Food intake and body weight were measured daily. ICV injection of ABA did not affect broilers' food intake compared to control group. Also, SC injection of ABA for ۶ days had no effect on measured traits, except on the ۴th day that food intake increased significantly in ABA group. The results of this study showed that ABA did not significantly affect the food consumption in neonatal broiler chicks
