Polymer modified asphalt is a type of asphalt that uses bitumen modified with polymer. Howeverthere are interpretations, for this type of asphalt which sometimes denotes a blend of bitumen,polymers and aggregate materials. Polymers are natural or synthetic materials that consist ofcompounds with high molecular weight and are made of multiple and repetitive connections. Thepurpose, behind incorporating polymers into other types of asphalt is to modify their chemicalcharacteristics ultimately enhancing their longevity. Many polymers are used in the production ofpolymer asphalts, the most important of which include thermoplastics, thermosets, thermoplasticelastomers, polyurethanes, polyether polyester copolymers, olefinic copolymers, styrene blockcopolymers, etc.
