چکیده مقاله:

This study adopts a Social Semiotic framework to examine the process of inter-semiotic translation, specifically focusing on the transition from dramatic text to film. The research aims to analyze the impact of semiotic choices within the linguistic system, which serves as the principal semiotic resource in drama, in the construction of a distinct dramatic discourse. Additionally, the research will explore how filmic discourse reinterprets the world depicted in the dramatic text using its multimodal semiotic resources. To achieve this, the play and film "Death of Yazdgerd," both authored and directed by Bahram Beyzai, have been selected as the focal point of analysis. Comparative analysis of corresponding segments of the two artefacts is conducted to identify similarities in the use of available semiotic resources for meaning creation. The study also investigates how the filmic medium recreates various dramatic meanings during the process of inter-semiotic translation. The findings reveal that the performative nature of dramatic language leads to deviations from spoken language, resulting in dramatic structures rich in implicit connotations. Moreover, the inter-semiotic transition involves shifts in semiotic modes, broadening of iconic systems, and an increase in available semiotic resources, which collectively contribute to the expansion of meanings
