Selected Leadership Style of Nursing Manager from the Perspective of Nurses Caring forCOVID-۱۹ Patients

Introduction: The leadership style of hospital nursing managers plays a vital role in crises and is currentlyplaying an effective role in combating COVID ۱۹. The aim of this study was to determine the leadership styleof the nursing manager (Matron) during the outbreak of COVID-۱۹.Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, ۸۶ nurses caring for patients admitted to COVID-۱۹ wardwere selected and entered to the study. Data were collected using Clark demographic and leadership stylequestionnaires that were provided to nurses electronically and analyzed by SPSS software and descriptive andinferential statistical tests.Results: The mean age of nurses was ۳۱.۴۷ ± ۶.۳۹ years and the mean work experience was ۵.۲۰. ۵.۰۱ years.۶۰ nurses (۶۹.۸%) were female. ۳۲ (۳۷.۲%) were married and ۸۲ (۹۵.۳%) had a bachelor's degree. In terms ofemployment status, ۴۷ (۵۴.۷%) were formal and ۲۲ (۲۵.۶%) were contracted and the rest were planned. Thehighest score was related to the Democratic leadership style (۴۰.۴۰. ۵.۸۷). The mean scores of transferring andauthoritarian leadership style were ۳۸.۷۶ ± ۹.۱۶ and ۲۶.۸۶ ± ۶.۴۵, respectively.Conclusion: The results showed that the selected leadership style of the nursing manager from the perspectiveof the studied nurses is democratic and then delegating. The use of democratic leadership style by nursingmanagers makes nurses feel more belonging and committed to the organization, which ultimately increases thequality of service and patient satisfaction. Therefore, nursing managers are encouraged to involve their staff indecision-making and goal setting
