چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Thalassemia is a congenital hemolytic anaemia that requires the patient to receive blood, whichmay cause iron overload and subsequent influence on lymphocyte subsets. Methods: In this descriptive study, ۴۰ subjects were evaluated: ۲۰ beta-thalassemia major patients who werechosen randomly as cases and ۲۰ healthy individuals as controls. The acquired data was entered into SPSSsoftware ۱۹ and analysed using descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney,MANOVA, and multivariate regression. Results: The mean values of CD۳, CD۸, and ferritin levels were significantly higher in thalassemia patients(P<۰.۰۰۱, P+۰.۰۰۳, and P<۰.۰۰۱, respectively). CD۴, CD۱۹, and CD۲۰ mean values were higher in thalassemiapatients; CD۱۶ and CD۵۶ were more elevated in controls. The difference in CD۳ between the two groups basedon age, ferritin level, sex, splenectomy, and the number of packed cell units received was statistically significant(P<۰.۰۰۱ for the first three, P=۰.۰۰۳ for splenectomy, and P=۰.۰۵ for the number of packed cell units). Themean value of CD۴ was significantly different between the two groups based on the ferritin level (P=۰.۰۰۲).Similar to CD۳, the mean value of CD۸ was also significantly different between the two groups based on thesecriteria (P=۰.۰۴, P=۰.۰۰۴, P=۰.۰۵, P=۰.۰۱۲, and P=۰.۰۱۳, respectively). Conclusions: CD۳ and CD۸ were significantly higher in beta-thalassemia patients. It was also shown that meanvalues of CD۳ and CD۸ differ significantly between thalassemia patients and healthy individuals regarding age, ferritin level, sex, splenectomy, and the number of packed cell units
