Introduction: Tuberculosis, being a chronic disease, can have both short-term and long-term effects on thequality of life of patients. The objective of this research is to investigate the impact of tuberculosis on the qualityof life and the severity of depression in patients who are hospitalized in Bandar Lengeh's hospitals. Moreover,to understand the short-term and long-term effects of tuberculosis on patients' quality of life, considering thedetrimental consequences that can arise from a disrupted quality of life.Methods and Materials: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional research conducted in ۲۰۱۵, focusing onpatients with tuberculosis who sought medical care in hospitals and the healthcare system in Bandar Lengeh.The sampling method used was a census, and a total of ۳۰ patients were included in the study. Data collectioninvolved the use of a demographic information questionnaire, as well as the Persian versions of the sf۳۶ (ShortForm-۳۶) and Beck
Depression Inventory. The collected data were analyzed using various statistical tests,including correlation analysis, independent-sample t-test, and ANOVA (analysis of variance). These analyseswere performed to explore the relationships between different variables and to identify any significantdifferences among the study participants.Results: In summary, this study involved ۳۰ tuberculosis patients with an average age of ۳۸.۰±۱۴.۱ years. Themajority of participants were male (۵۳.۳%) and single (۵۳.۳%). The scores for vitality and mental componentsvaried, with higher scores observed in the vitality domain compared to the mental components. The mean scorefor overall quality of life was higher among men and single individuals. A significant negative correlation wasfound between the quality of life and depression, indicating that as depression increased, the quality of lifedecreased. However, no statistically significant differences were found in other variables. Overall, the studyhighlights the importance of addressing depression and promoting a better quality of life for tuberculosispatients.Conclusion:
Tuberculosis has a significant impact on various aspects of depression and quality of life, includingphysical, functional, contextual, ideological, and moral aspects. Recognizing these differences andunderstanding the factors that influence them is crucial for implementing healthcare programs that aim toenhance the quality of life for tuberculosis patients.
