The effect of accompanying midwife on the outcome of labor and delivery

Introduction: Childbirth is an important life event that can evoke a wide range of emotions in expectantmothers, from excitement and joy to anxiety and fear. While these feelings are a natural part of the labor process,excessive levels of anxiety and fear can have negative effects on both mother and baby. In recent years, therehas been a growing interest in the use of accompanying midwives and physiologic births as a form of supportduring pregnancy and childbirth. The purpose of this article is to examine the impact of accompanying midwivesand participation in childbirth preparation classes on labor and delivery outcomes in order to gain a betterunderstanding of their role in promoting a positive birth experience for women. This research has the potentialto contribute to the growing knowledge about support. of childbirth and provides insights for health careprofessionals and expectant mothers.Methods: The present study is a review study that was conducted in Sid, PubMed, Scholar, Google databases.Using the key words of accompanying midwife, fear, anxiety, physiological birth, satisfaction, articles relatedto the topic from ۲۰۱۰ to ۲۰۲۱ were selected.Results: A total of ۴۰ English and Farsi articles were searched. The general summary of the articles was studiedand finally the data of ۱۲ articles were used to write this review article. The use of accompanying midwivesduring pregnancy and childbirth shows potential in reducing anxiety, fear and depression experienced byexpectant mothers. The existing literature shows that accompanying midwives provide emotional support,personal care and empowerment to pregnant mothers during the birth process and increase the resilience of themother during childbirth. Also, physiological delivery, in addition to improving the quality indicators ofmothers' health, reduces the length of labor and improves the individual control of mothers without causingunnecessary complications and interventions.Conclusion: In the present study, it has been shown that the continuous support of the mother during labor anddelivery by accompanying midwives has many beneficial effects. More research is needed to fully understandthe effect of accompanying midwives in dealing with anxiety and fear of childbirth. Health care professionalsshould consider including midwives in their care plans for expectant mothers, while also recognizing thelimitations and challenges associated with this approach. Finally, continued efforts to improve birth experiencesand support women in promoting positive and healthy outcomes for mothers and babies are critical. This articlehas a strong foundation and presents an interesting and relevant topic in the field of maternity care. It wouldgreatly benefit from further development and consideration of the proposed areas for improvement. Overall,this in-depth analysis has the potential to contribute valuable insights to health care professionals and expectantmothers.
