Anxiety and depression in diabetic patient referred to Bandar Abbas diabetes clinic

Introduction: Psychiatric problems are more common among diabetic patients than general population and can impact on treatment success. Data on psychiatric problems in diabetic patients in Bandar Abbas is limited. The aim of this study was to access the prevalence and severity of anxiety and depression in these patients. Methods: In this descriptive cross – sectional study, ۱۰۰ patients attending Bandar Abbas diabetes clinic were selected simply and were accessed by Beck anxiety and depression questionnaires. Data analyzed using SPSS ۱۳, Chi-Square and t-test. Results: Prevalence of anxiety and depression was ۶۷ and ۵۰ percent, respectively. Both anxiety and depression was more common among females, those with type ۲ diabetes and those had at least one complication of diabetes. Conclusion: due to high prevalence of anxiety and depression in these patients, routine assessment is indicated.
