Preparation and Characterization of New Compound by Electrochemical Oxidation of Methyl Catechol in the Presence of ۲-Thiouracil

The electrochemical oxidation of methyl catechol in the presence of ۲-thiouracil (as a nucleophile) has beenperformed in aqueous solutions using cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential coulometric techniques.The electrochemical behavior of methyl catechol in the presence of ۲-thiouracil was investigated. Theelectrochemical synthesis of this compound has been successfully performed in an undivided cell in a goodyield and purity and was characterized by IR, ۱H and ۱۳C NMR. According to the results obtained from۱H NMR, ۱۳C NMR it is concluded that methyl o-quinones are attached in all probably only in the its C۴position to ۲-thiouracil from S position leading to the formation of ۲-(۴,۵-dihydroxy-۲-methylphenylthio)pyrimidin-۴(۳H)-one (DMPTP).
