Investigating the Mediating Role of Family Emotional Intelligence and Self – Concept in the Tendency to Use Drugs among Students of Zabul Azad University

Addiction and substance abuse is one of the most important social, health, and psychological challenges in the world at these days and as the most important social harm has attacked human society, therefore this study aims to determine the tendency to addiction and substance abuse with regard to the role of a mediator of emotional intelligence and self-concept in Zabul Azad University students. Research method in this study was descriptive-analytical study, the studied population consisted of Zabul Azad University students (۲۱۶ new students of the ۷th semester and above) were selected and studied using the census method. The data collection tools were questionnaires of family functioning and tendency to addiction and drug abuse. The data analyzed by SPSS software and independent t – test, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation coefficient was applied. The average addiction tendency score of the studied sample was estimated to be ۴۵.۴+۳۵.۱۷ out of a total of ۳۶ points. The average score of addiction tendency of the studied sample was significantly higher in male students compared to female students and students who had addicted friends was higher than students who did not have addicted friends. The average score of family functioning was ۱۷.۵۸+۱۱۴. ۱۳ out of total of ۲۱۱ points were estimated. The average score of continuity and flexibility of the family of the studied sample was ۴۱.۹ + ۴۵.۵۸, and ۱۲۹.۵۶+۳۶.۹ were estimated from a total of ۱۱۱ points. In the dimension of family functioning, between the current connection (emotional relationships between members) and family, and the addiction tendency of the studied students was found a negative and significant relationship. According to the results of this study, the emotional connection of family members has created a warm focus for life and guardianship and the proper monitoring of families in choosing friends and the type of relationships, on young people, especially males, can have a great positive effect on preventing addiction and drug addiction.
