Investigating the Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Social Adjustment of Parents of Mentally Retarded Children

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and social adjustment of parents of mentally retarded children in Zahedan city. Descriptive-survey research method was applied and statistical population of this research included the parents of mentally retarded children in Zahedan city. In this research, ۱۰۰ parents of mentally retarded children were selected as a sample using convenience sampling method. V. Singer's emotional intelligence questionnaire was used to measure emotional intelligence and Bell's adjustment questionnaire was used to measure social adjustment. Pearson's correlation coefficient test and t-test were used to test the research hypotheses. The results of Pearson's correlation test showed that there was a relationship between emotional intelligence and social adjustment in parents of mentally retarded children. The results of the t-test showed that the emotional intelligence status of the parents of mentally retarded children was in average. Also, the results showed that the social adjustment status of the parents of mentally retarded children was low.
