چکیده مقاله:

A new trace element laboratory based on the instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) as well as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) has been established through a grant obtained from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).An elaborate rapid sample transfer mechanism comprising of a computer controlled pneumatic transfer system has been designed. The transit time of the sample between the ۷۰۰ meters distance separating the laboratory and the reactor core is of the order ۳۰ seconds.An extensive air- sampling of the restricted traffic zones of the city of Tehran has been performed during the spring and summer of ۱۹۹۰. Three dimensional maps of the concentration of various elements of Br, Co, Fe, Sb, Sc versus sampling location coordinates has been obtained.These maps are to be used as database for future reference and to establish the high concentration point(s) for various elements from which one could deduce or determine the sources of pollution in the city. Subsequently, a Continuous monitoring program utilising fixed and permanent sampling stations is to be implemented. The combined results of which could be used for enacting new laws, developing environmental protection regulations, implementing city planning programs, and adopting new traffic control measures etc.
