MORPHOLOGY AND DISTRIBUTION OF TRICHOMES IN SOME GENERA (MORUS, FICUS, BROUSSONETIA AND MACLURA) OF MORACEAE

The micromorphology and distribution of trichomes in leaf surfaces of speciesbelonging to Morus, Ficus, Broussonetiaand Madura which are native or cultivated in Iran werestudied. Three types of trichomes including; glandular, nonglandular and cystolith trichomes showedcharacteristicfeatures in thesegenera of Moraceae. Glandular trichomes are usuallywith short stalk and spherical or elongatedhead. The nonglandular trichomes are unicellular but differentiatedinto ۳ types as large, bristle and bracket types. Cystolith trichomes withswollen base and mucronate apex are alsopresent.
