چکیده مقاله:

Brackish water desalination is a potential solution for water supply in Iran, which is facing asevere water scarcity problem. However, brackish water desalination requires a significantamount of energy, which can have environmental and economic impacts. This essay comparestwo energy sources for brackish water desalination in Iran: solar photovoltaic (PV) and naturalgas. The essay uses the ReCePi method, which is a comprehensive and transparent frameworkfor assessing the resource consumption, emissions, and costs of energy systems. The essayconsiders four main indicators: greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water consumption, landuse, and costs. The essay applies the ReCePi method to a case study in Qom, Qom Province,Iran, which is one of the most water-stressed regions in Iran. The results show that solar PVtechnology has lower GHG emissions, water consumption, and costs than natural gastechnology for brackish water desalination in Iran. However, natural gas technology has lowerland use than solar PV technology for brackish water desalination in Iran. Therefore, there aretrade-offs and uncertainties involved in choosing between solar PV and natural gastechnologies for brackish water desalination in Iran. The essay provides somerecommendations based on the findings and states the main contributions of this essay to thefield of brackish water desalination
