چکیده مقاله:
A serious consequence of corrosion in structural steel members is the degradation of their mechanical properties. As a result of this deterioration, important parameters in tensile strength and deformability characteristics of these members such as yield stress, ultimate stress, and their corresponding strains decrease. Therefore, evaluating different features of these members with high precision is of great importance. The goal of this study is to investigate the effect of the pitting factor, a parameter used for measuring the metal penetration, on steel plates with pitting corrosion, an extreme form of localized corrosion. For this purpose, seven standard steel tension specimens, each containing one cylindrical corrosion pit, were modeled, and numerical analyses using the Finite Element Method (FEM) were performed on them. Load-displacement curves were then considered to identify the extent of the deterioration. Results showed that varying pitting factor, along with constant cross-sectional area loss ratio, did not have a major influence on the tensile strength of steel. In contrast, it severely affected the deformability properties, namely the displacement at failure.
