چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objective: ۱۵% of reproductive aged couples are affected by infertility, which male factor is estimated about ۵۰% worldwide. ۳۰-۸۰% of them are attributed to the male oxidative stress infertility (MOSI); which is due to an imbalance between antioxidants capacity (TAC) and reactive oxygen species (ROS). It can be affected by lifestyle especially dietary agents.Materials & Methodss: Databases of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar was searched between ۲۰۰۰ and ۲۰۲۲. The Key words used included male infertility, oxidative stress, ROS, antioxidants and supplements.Findings: ۱۲ clinical trials and ۷ Systematic reviews were selected for more evaluations. It seems that antioxidant supplements such as Zinc, Selenium, Ꞷ۳ Fatty acids, CoQ۱۰ and Carnitine can improve semen quality. These supplements inhibit oxidative stress that leads to increased sperm motility, count, concentration, viability and healthier morphology.Additionally, Zinc stimulates DNA condensation which guards it against Free Radicals. Selenium and Ꞷ۳s via specific mechanisms modify cell membranes composition too. Moreover, CoQ۱۰ as a part of the electron transfer chain and Carnitine as an important transporter in energy production process in mitochondria, make significant improvements in sperm motility. Conclusions: Investigated studies showed that antioxidants can prevent sperm damage thorough DNA protection than in turn inhibit unwanted apoptosis and improve semen quality. This kind of nutritional supplementation can be considered as a non-pharmacological strategy toward male infertility.
