چکیده مقاله:

Background & objectives: Thyroid nodules are the prevalent clinical problem, which can be palpable or accidentally discovered during imaging .Epidemiologic studies have shown that the prevalence of thyroid nodules has increased in recent years. On physical exam, palpable thyroid nodules can be detected in ۱% of adult men and ۵% of adult women. And with high-resolution ultrasound (US) can detect thyroid nodules in ۱۹–۶۸% of general adult populations. More than ۸۵ to ۹۰% of thyroid nodules are benign .The most crucial diagnosis in these nodules is thyroid cancer, as thyroid cancer has increased by ۳% per year for the last ten years.Materials & Methods: Primary methods of approaching thyroid nodules include ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) .Conclusions: In the study, there is a significant relationship between some ultrasound findings and FNA results, the most common of which is the presence of microcalcification in the nodule, so that ۱۰۰% of malignant nodules had microcalcification. Other findings include irregular margins, increased vascularity, hypoechogenicity and heterogeneous nodules. Also, no significant relationship was found between the area, number and location of nodules, family history of thyroid malignancies, age and sex of the patient and the level of thyroid hormones.
