چکیده مقاله:

Background & Objectives: Fusion proteins with two or more different protein domains integrated into one molecule represent a well-studied class of protein therapeutics. The fusion of two or more protein domains enhances bioactivities or generates novel functional combinations with a wide range of biotechnological and (bio) pharmaceutical applications. This technology enables the production of fusion proteins called immunotoxins, which are created by binding antibody fragments to the domains of bacterial toxins. Its antibody part targets a specific antigen on the tumor cell or infectious cells and kills the cell with the toxin part. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of immunotoxins in the treatment of various cancers. Methods and Materials: For this purpose, articles published in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct databases have been used.Findings: Findings have shown that immunotoxins have unique features such as high specificity, extraordinary potency and lack of drug resistance, which can be used to target cancer cells. Also, its pharmacokinetic investigations showed favorable properties such as reducing immunogenicity and off-target toxicity. Conclusions: Since cancer treatments usually require combined treatments, immunotoxins as part of new treatment approaches can be a suitable alternative to conventional chemotherapy for cancer treatment.
