Telerehabilitation and Coping in the Caregivers of People with Multiple Sclerosis during Period of Covid ۱۹ Pandemic

Background and objectives: Caregivers of people with Multiple sclerosis (MS) face various challenges in the coping with multiple sclerosis caregiving. We investigated the effect of an online occupation-based group program on the coping with multiple sclerosis caregiving in caregivers of people with MS.Materials and Methods: In a single-blind randomized controlled trial twenty-four eligible caregivers of people with MS participated in the control and an online occupation-based group program. Caregivers completed the coping with multiple sclerosis caregiving inventory (CMSCI) before and after the intervention and one month later. CMSCI has ۵ subscales and ۳۴ items that measures different ways of coping in the caregivers. The subscales include: avoidance (۱۱ items), practical assistance (۷ items), supportive engagement (۶ items), criticism and coercion (۵ items) and positive reframing (۵ items). This clinical trial was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (http: //www.irct.ir) with the number IRCT۲۰۱۶۰۸۰۸۰۲۹۲۶۰N۳ and was approved by the Ethics Committee of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IR.IUMS.REC.۱۳۹۷.۷۴۲).Results: All of CMSCI subscales scores demonstrated significant difference in the intervention group before and after the intervention (p<.۰۰۱), and only the avoidance subscale score of the CMSCI was significant between the groups (p=.۰۲۵).Conclusionss: Based on the results occupation-based group program via telerehabilitation was effective in facilitating the coping strategies and improving caregivers' coping level.
