چکیده مقاله:
Background and purposes: sleep disorder is a prevalent problem in menopausal women, and the decrease in sleep quality leads to a decrease in daily performance. Various drug and non-drug treatments are employed to improve sleep disorders. Today, a large group of non-drug treatments are proposed as complementary and alternative medicine. However, among the world’s traditional methods, Traditional Chinese Medicine has received the most attention. Acupuncture and acupressure are prominent therapeutic methods of Chinese medicine, and the belief is that they improve the sleep quality by affecting the melatonin serum level and the serotonin secretion. This study was carried out with the aim of comparing the effect of acupuncture and acupressure methods on improving the sleep quality of menopausal women. Methods: This review study was conducted using databases of SID, Magiran, IranMedex, Scopus, MEDLINE/PubMed Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar without date restrictions, but only articles published in English and Persian up to October ۲۰۲۲, and using main English Key words including acupuncture, acupressure, sleep quality, insomnia, menopause, and their Persian equivalents.Conclusionss: The analysis of the results indicated that both acupuncture and acupressure are effective on the sleep quality of menopausal women. Therefore, given that acupressure is a non-invasive and cheap method and can be easily learned by patients, it can be taught to patients as a self-care method and used as a complementary method by women to improve sleep quality.
