چکیده مقاله:

Radon gas is the second risk factor of lung cancer. It distributes from the soil, water, and building materials. The emission of alpha particles in the lung causes genetic defects. In this study, the short-lived radon progeny and lung equivalent dose were measured and compared in different buildings of KUMS (Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences). The DOSEman PRO (Sarad, Germany, ۲۰۰۷) as an alpha spectroscopic dosimeter was used for this study. All ۱۰۶ measurements were done in December and January on the ground floor of the buildings. The Mean ± SD values of equivalent equilibrium concentration (EEC) and lungs equivalent dose (for the time duration of ۲ hours) were ۶.۹۵ ± ۵.۵۲ Bq/m۳, ۰.۰۹ ± ۰.۰۸ µSv, respectively. There were significant differences for EEC, lungs equivalent dose, radon concentration and potential alpha energy exposure (PAEC) values among hospitals, dormitories, and schools (p < ۰.۰۰۱). Although the mean values of radon progeny were lower than international levels, hospitals and schools need to adopt a new approach to decreasing the radon levels.
