The Effect of ۱۲ Weeks Aerobic Training on PDX-۱ and GLUT۲ Gene Expression in the Pancreatic Tissue of Type ۲ Diabetic Rats

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ۱۲ weeks aerobic training on PDX-۱ and GLUT۲ gene expression in the pancreatic tissue of type ۲ diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: ۲۱ wistar male rats were placed in ۳ groups (healthy, diabetic, aerobic diabetic). Diabetes was induced by peritoneum injection of nicotine amid. Training program lasted ۱۲ weeks, five sessions per week by gradual increase of speed (۱۸ to ۲۶ meters on minutes) and time (۱۰ to ۵۵ minutes) in the form of running on the treadmill. After ۱۲ week aerobic training, PDX-۱ and GLUT-۲ genes were measured. Data was analyzed using ANOVA with ۵ % significance level. Results: Aerobic training caused a significant increase in the expression of GLUT۲ (P-value: ۰.۰۴۳) and PDX-۱ genes (P-value: ۰.۰۰۷) in the pancreatic tissue of rats with type ۲ diabetes (p value: ۰.۰۵). Also aerobic training had a significant effect on serum glucose (P-value: ۰.۰۰۱) and insulin levels (P-value: ۰.۰۰۱). Conclusion: It is concluded that aerobic training has significant effects on diabetic control by increasing the expression of PDX۱ and GLUT-۲ which lowers serum glucose.
