The relationship between Aristotelian rationality and religion from the perspective of Averroes

Averroes is the great philosopher of the Islamic world and considers Aristotle to be the perfect example of human rationality. He considers his mission to explain and interpret Aristotle in the Islamic world. In his opinion, the lack of accurate understanding of Aristotle has caused many problems among Islamic thinkers. By explaining the different dimensions of Aristotelian rationality, he has tried to emphasize the distinction between rational certainty and persuasion caused by religious teachings. According to Averroes, religion has a pragmatic identity and does not claim to show the truth or the way to reach the truth, and has no purpose other than acquiring moral virtues and putting ordinary people on the path to prosperity. In this article, we are trying to explain Averroes' interpretation of Aristotelian rationality, and its relationship with religion. This study shows a path to understand the root and foundation of our current problems regarding the relationship between reason and religion and the relationship between traditional and modern thinking.
