Development and Validation of Teacher-Student Relationship Scale Based on the Six Domains of Human Social Behavior in Higher Education Settings

The cognitive neuroscience of social behavior has witnessed a growing interest in interpersonal relationships. By expanding the constructs of human behavior, the nature of relationships between teachers and students can be more easily understood. Drawing on the six categories of human social behavior, the purpose of this paper was to design and develop a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess university professors’ different dimensions of behavior in their interactions with Iranian students. Results showed a high content validity from Content Validity Ratio (CVR) (۰.۸۶) and Item-Level Content Validity Index (I-CVI) (۰.۹۲) estimates, indicating that all items are appropriate. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated a good fit of the instrument to the data for the scale (AVE= ۰.۵۹۴). The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) indicated that from the ۷۶ items, ۵۸ items were retained. The Composite Reliability (CR) and the alpha estimates obtained from the pre-final version of the questionnaire showed excellent internal consistency (α = ۰.۹۶, CR = ۰.۹۲). Therefore, we were left with the final version of the questionnaire with ۵۸ items and ۶ domains. Having reached a high amount of internal consistency, this questionnaire has the potential to be used in higher education contexts of other countries.
