Ultra-sensitive dual-band metamaterial sensor with high reflection index in the terahertz range

In this research, a terahertz band sensor based on metamaterial has been presented, which includes a triangular resonator with slits inside and on a dielectric substrate made of polyamide, which is placed at the end of a gold ground plate. The presence of gaps in the heart of the triangle has caused electrical energy to be trapped, which has led to the creation of excellent absorption peaks at frequencies of ۲.۱۸ and ۳.۲۵ terahertz. The structure quality factor has a high value of ۸۴.۹ in two absorption frequencies due to the sharp resonance frequency. The suggested architecture exhibits a high degree of sensitivity to alterations in the refractive index of the ambient environment, in the context of a stationary analyte. Furthermore, the sensor that is being proposed exhibits a notable sensitivity of ۲.۳۱THz/RIU, and an impressive Figure of Merit (FOM) of ۱۸.۵ RIU-۱, when the refractive index ranges from ۱ to ۱.۵, and the analyte thickness remains fixed at ۳۱ μm. Moreover, the impact of the sensor’s sensitivity and absorption capacity on the thickness of the sample that is coated by the sensor surface is also analyzed. Given the high sensitivity and quality (Q) factor, the design of the refractive index (RI) sensor has been effectively employed in the realm of sensing and diagnosis.
