Environmental Impacts of Cement Production:A Call for Sustainable Practices

Introduction: The construction industry, including the use of concrete, raises significantenvironmental concerns, with cement being one of the key factors. The production of concreteand cement results in the emission of greenhouse gases and acidic gases.Objective: This paper aims to investigate the negative environmental impacts of cementproduction while highlighting technological advancements and sustainable practices aimed atreducing these effects.Research Methodology: This article presents a case study approach, focusing on an extensiveanalysis of heavy metal concentrations and the presence of elements in soil, water, and plants. Italso provides existing solutions for achieving sustainability.Conclusion: The cement industry has made significant efforts in adopting sustainable andefficient practices to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Several technologies and innovationshave been developed and implemented to achieve these goals, such as sustainable cementproduction methods, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and CO۲ injection technology.
